Hello, OV Families!

Welcome back to school! We're excited to share the latest happenings and updates from our school community to keep you informed and engaged.

Our family newsletters are published once a month this year instead of weekly. We will send reminders and updates as needed.

If you have any questions, please reach out to our office manager, Jamie Wright. You can reach her at WrightJL@mukilteo.wednet.edu.

WORLD LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY EXAM

Attention 8th Grade Parents!

Is your 8th grader fluent (reads, writes, listens and speaks) in a language other than English?

The Mukilteo School District wants to help students obtain high school credits they need to graduate by giving an opportunity to earn credits for a language they already know. Exams are available in more than 70 languages.

Exams will be proctored at OV on November 3rd or 4th.

Before your student signs up, make sure they can confidently demonstrate skills in reading,
writing, listening, and speaking. As an example, students should be able to write a response of at least 100 words, discuss a topic and explain their understanding and opinions for approximately three minutes, read and understand an article, and listen to and understand a story or conversation.

If your student is not ready this year, that's okay. The WLPE is offered annually, giving your student additional opportunities to strengthen skills and prepare for a future testing session.

Students sign up in Counseling/Library Schoology. Last date to sign up is 10/21/26.

Questions? Students should check in with their counselor, Wendy Smith.

LEARNING LABS

LEARNING LABS is available to our 6th graders after school from 2:45-4pm in the PE Health classroom (C143) on Mondays through Thursdays.

Kim Phillips, our LEARNING LAB coordinator for this school year, can help students stay on top of work, strengthen your student's skills, and make sure they are starting the year off right. Let’s kick off the school year strong and stay on track for academic success.

Students can also ride the activity bus home as long as they live in our bus boundaries.

ELECT TO LEARN

Our 7th and 8th graders are welcome to attend Elect to Learn in A214 on Mondays-Thursdays from 2:45-4pm to work on assignments, read a book quietly or get some help from an OV staff member.

Teachers also have the opportunity to assign students to attend Elect to Learn to complete missing work or need additional help.

Advisers will give bus passes to participating students who need to ride the activity bus home. Bus passes are required to ride the activity bus.
