ATTENDANCE MATTERS

Dear Olympic View Families,
As we prepare for an exciting new school year, we want to remind families that if your student will be absent from school for a planned reason, a Prearranged Absence Form must be completed before the absence occurs.

Forms are available in the school office, and families may also access them online:

A prearranged absence is required any time you know in advance that your student will be absent from school for one or more days. This includes, but is not limited to:
  • Family vacations and trips
  • Travel for sporting events, tournaments, competitions, performances, or camps
  • Family events or celebrations
  • Any other planned absence that will cause your student to miss school
If you know ahead of time that your student will be out of school for one or more days, a prearranged absence form should be completed.

Prearranged absence forms are not needed when a student is sick or experiences an unexpected illness. They are only required for absences that are known in advance.

Completing a Prearranged Absence Form is important for several reasons:
  • It allows teachers to know in advance that your student will be away and helps them prepare assignments and learning materials whenever possible.
  • The first five absences may be considered excused. After that point, additional vacation-related absences cannot be excused under district guidelines.
  • It encourages students to communicate directly with their teachers and take responsibility for staying current with their learning.
  • It provides the school with advance notice so we can appropriately document and support the absence.

Whenever possible, we encourage families to schedule vacations, tournaments, camps, and extended trips during school breaks. While we understand that this is not always possible, being present at school gives students the best opportunity to engage in learning, participate in class discussions, collaborate with peers, and build strong relationships with their teachers.
Research consistently shows that frequent absences, whether excused or unexcused, can impact a student's academic progress, social and emotional connections, classroom engagement, grades, and long-term success in school.

At Olympic View, we want every student to be as successful as possible. We value our partnership with families and appreciate your support in making attendance a priority. Together, we can help ensure that all students have the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive throughout the school year.
Thank you for your partnership and support.

OV Assistant Principal

The text "LIBRARY NEWS" is overlaid on a blurred background of bookshelves.
Hello from the OV Library! All students have “Counseling & Library” on their schedules (also in Schoology courses and Qmlativ). Even though it looks like it’s a class, it’s the tool for our counselors & librarian to connect with students. This assists students accessing counselors & the librarian on Schoology through messages. There is no 7th period here at OV.
  • Hall, Morris and Smith are the counselors.
  • Peterson is the LIBRARIAN.
All students will visit the library EVERY OTHER WEEK, during their ELA classes. Each student can check out up to 3 books and they are due 14 days from check out.

If you have any questions about this schedule, please contact our librarian, Mrs. Peterson. This week is “O” week –all 6th graders and Mr. Evan’s 8th graders will visit library this week! Next week is “V” week for all 7th graders and Mrs. Roberts’ 8th graders.

LEARNING LABS

We are excited to announce that LEARNING LABS will be open after school from 2:45-4pm in the PE Health classroom, C143, on Mondays through Thursdays. Learning Labs is for 6th graders only!

Kim Phillips, our LEARNING LAB coordinator for this school year, can help students stay on top of work, strengthen your student's skills, and make sure they are starting the year off right. Let’s kick off the school year strong and stay on track for academic success.

Students can also ride the activity bus home as long as they live in our bus boundaries. See you there!
