LAST DAY! TAKE THE PARENT/GUARDIAN SURVEY

Our school district is doing a district-wide survey to get a better sense of how families are doing and how we can better serve you.

The survey is open through February 2, 2026. The survey should only take 15 to 20 minutes to complete and is available in several languages including English, Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, Korean, Arabic and Vietnamese.

Thank you for helping us get a sense of how people are doing and how we can better support students and families.

If you have any issues accessing the survey, please contact JoAnne Fabian: fabianjx@mukilteo.wednet.edu.

JANUARY PIRATES OF THE MONTH

Last month, we are celebrated kindness as our Pirate of the Month theme. Kindness means giving attention, appreciation, and encouragement through words, gifts, or actions. Kind Pirates are good listeners, gentle and patient, take time to get to know others, avoid judgment, give compliments, include everyone, and show consistency in how they treat others.
Six students proudly hold "Olympic View Pirate of the Month" certificates, awarded for "Kindness" in January 2026.
We are proud to recognize the following students for demonstrating kindness in our school community:
Elijah Garcia, Amilia McCafferty, Emma Fleckenstein, Ersalyn Mathew, Salah Shams, and Elyana Alemayehu.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Neon sign reads 'STUDENT LEAVE PASSES' and 'Early Departures' in pink and yellow.

LEAVING EARLY FOR AN APPOINTMENT?

If your student needs to leave early for an appointment, please email OVAttendance@mukilteo.wednet.edu, send a note with your student, or call our attendance line at 425-366-5205 at least 30 minutes in advance. We’ll have your student ready in the office when you arrive — it’s a win-win!
The words "SCHOOL NURSE" are displayed above a band-aid with a red heart.

IS YOUR STUDENT FEELING SICK?

If your student isn’t feeling well at school, please remind them to let their teacher know. The teacher will provide a pass to the nurse, who will assess their condition and contact parents or guardians if needed.

Because of our no cell phone policy, students should not contact parents directly from class to report illness. Following this procedure helps our nurse track health concerns and prevents phones from being confiscated. Thank you for your support and understanding.

The words 'Spirit Week' are displayed in white, stylized font against colorful, overlapping rectangular blocks.

SPIRIT WEEK (2/9 - 2/13)

Join us for a fun and festive Spirit Week as we celebrate school pride and community. Students are invited to participate in daily spirit days:
  • Monday: Sports Day
  • Tuesday: Cozy Day
  • Wednesday: Staff/Student Swap
  • Thursday: Cupid Fit: wear pink, red, and white
  • Friday: Pirate Pride
We can’t wait to see everyone showing their spirit all week long!  (Check out last week's Schoology for some pictures/ideas.)

All School Celebration! February 12th
Join us for our All School Celebration on Wednesday, February 12, after school from 2:45–4:00 PM! This event is free to attend and open to all students. There will be snacks and drinks available for purchase, plus lots of fun activities including bingo, music, open gym, and crafts. An activity bus will be available to take students home after the event (must live in bus boundaries to ride). We hope to see everyone there!

SPORTSMAN AWARD--BOYS BASKETBALL

Congratulations to James Harmon (7th Grade) and OV Coach Ken Bone. They were both awarded the Sportsmanship Award from the Snohomish County Basketball Officials (SCBBO) Association. Way to represent OV, James & Coach Bone! We are proud of you!
Our OV athlete in a basketball uniform holds a Certificate of Sportsmanship.
Pictured: James posing with his Sportsmanship Award in the OV gym

"James Harmon demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship throughout the game. He was consistently respectful, friendly, and courteous—regularly offering “thank you, sir,” and using polite language that is uncommon at the middle-school level. Our entire officiating crew noticed his attitude and even discussed it after the game. James carried himself with maturity, treated everyone with respect, and played the game the right way. A genuinely impressive young man and a strong player." --SCBBO Official

"Coach was very respectful and coached his kids and asked questions very respectfully. His team played well and was also very respectful, reflection of his coaching style. Very professional. Those 8th graders are lucky to have a person with his experience." --SCBBO Official

WINTER SPORTS SEASON #2

WRESTLING BEGINS NEXT MONTH

Wrestling begins on February 12th. It's open to boys and girls in all grades. (Our 6th graders can practice with the team but cannot compete in meets.) It is a no-cut sport, but all athletes must complete Final Forms online registration and have a current physical on file. (See more detailed info below from Coach Baldwin about the program.)
Check out these links for more sports information: OV SPORTS INFO and FINAL FORMS ONLINE REGISTRATION.

Need directions on how to register on Final Forms? Click on one of the attached documents (English and Spanish).

Girls Wresting Info:
We are excited to invite all Olympic View Middle School girls to come try Girls Wrestling! Wrestling is one of the fastest-growing girls’ sports in the country, and OV is proud to offer a supportive, beginner-friendly wrestling program where athletes can learn, grow, and gain confidence—no prior experience required.

A Clear Path to High School Girls Wrestling
Olympic View feeds directly into Kamiak High School, which now has a completely separate girls wrestling team with 20 girls currently on the roster.

While middle school wrestling is co-ed, the Kamiak girls program is a stand-alone team with:
• Girls-only practices
• Girls-only competition
• A strong team culture focused on confidence, leadership, and growth

Important note for families:
At the middle school level, Pirates Wrestling is a co-ed program, and girls and boys practice in the same room. At the high school level, Kamiak has a completely separate girls wrestling team.

Safety, Consent, and Athlete Comfort
Athlete safety and emotional comfort are a top priority in our program. Girls will never be required to wrestle anyone they are not comfortable wrestling. Consent, communication and respect are a major focus of how practices are run. Athletes are encouraged to speak up, set boundaries, and advocate for themselves—and those boundaries are always respected.

Wrestling helps athletes build:
• Strength and athletic confidence
• Discipline and resilience
• Self-defense skills
• Mental toughness
• A strong sense of belonging and teamwork

Many of our current wrestlers are first-time athletes who had never wrestled—or even played a sport—before joining.

You Won’t Be the Only One
We already have seven girls signed up for the season, and most of them are brand new to wrestling. Several joined because a friend was willing to try it with them. If your student is on the fence, she will not be alone.

Who Can Join?
✔️ All Olympic View girls & boys (grades 6-8); 6th graders can practice with team but cannot compete in meets
✔️ Beginners welcome
✔️ No experience needed
✔️ No tryouts or cuts
If your student is curious, athletic, shy, competitive, or just looking for something new—wrestling is for them.

Starting wrestling in middle school is a great way to build skills and confidence before high school—but no prior experience is required at any level. Join Our Schoology Group for more info! Access code is 5PTR-2GGX-XK7J8

If you have questions or would like to talk through whether wrestling is a good fit for your student, I’m happy to connect: BaldwinJH@mukilteo.wednet.edu

Seeking 2026–27 PTO Board Members
We’re looking for new leaders to carry on the OV PTO’s great work next year! Many of our current board members have 8th graders moving on, so we need new volunteers to train this spring. Incoming 6th-grade families are encouraged to join! If you’re interested, please contact the nominating committee by March 13 at 12PM at ovpiratepride@gmail.com.
