WINTER SPORTS SEASON #2

Two female basketball players in uniform compete for the ball on a court, with spectators in the background.

GIRLS BASKETBALL TRYOUTS

Girls basketball tryouts are today through Thursday, January 22nd. Interested 7th and 8th grade girls must have their Final Forms online paperwork completed and have a copy of a current sports phycial on file with Mr. Reinecke in order to tryout.
Two wrestlers in red and green singlets grapple intensely on a mat.

WRESTLING BEGINS IN FEBRUARY

Wrestling begins on February 12th. It's open to boys and girls in all grades. (Our 6th graders can practice with the team but cannot compete in meets.) It is a no-cut sport, but all athletes must complete Final Forms online registration and have a current physical on file. (See more detailed info below from Coach Baldwin about the program.)
Check out these links for more sports information: OV SPORTS INFO and FINAL FORMS ONLINE REGISTRATION.

Need directions on how to register on Final Forms? Click on one of the attached documents (English and Spanish).

Girls Wrestling Info from Coach Baldwin

We are excited to invite all Olympic View Middle School girls to come try Girls Wrestling! Wrestling is one of the fastest-growing girls’ sports in the country, and OV is proud to offer a supportive, beginner-friendly wrestling program where athletes can learn, grow, and gain confidence—no prior experience required.

Important note for families:
At the middle school level, Pirates Wrestling is a co-ed program, and girls and boys practice in the same room. At the high school level, Kamiak has a completely separate girls wrestling team.

Season Information
📅 Season Start Date: February 12th
📅 Final Meet: April 1st
📍 Location: Olympic View Middle School

Practice Schedule
🟢 Monday–Thursday
• Practice: 2:45–4:45 PM
• Pickup: 5:00 PM

🟣 Friday
• Practice: 1:30–3:45 PM
• Pickup: 4:00 PM

Practices run directly after school and are structured with an emphasis on safety, skill development and confidence-building.

Safety, Consent, and Athlete Comfort
Athlete safety and emotional comfort are a top priority in our program. Girls will never be required to wrestle anyone they are not comfortable wrestling. Consent, communication and respect are a major focus of how practices are run. Athletes are encouraged to speak up, set boundaries, and advocate for themselves—and those boundaries are always respected.

Wrestling helps athletes build:
• Strength and athletic confidence
• Discipline and resilience
• Self-defense skills
• Mental toughness
• A strong sense of belonging and teamwork

Many of our current wrestlers are first-time athletes who had never wrestled—or even played a sport—before joining.

You Won’t Be the Only One
We already have seven girls signed up for the season, and most of them are brand new to wrestling. Several joined because a friend was willing to try it with them. If your student is on the fence, she will not be alone.

Who Can Join?
✔️ All Olympic View girls
✔️ Beginners welcome
✔️ No experience needed
✔️ No tryouts or cuts
If your student is curious, athletic, shy, competitive, or just looking for something new—wrestling is for them.

A Clear Path to High School Girls Wrestling
Olympic View feeds directly into Kamiak High School, which now has a completely separate girls wrestling team with 20 girls currently on the roster.

While middle school wrestling is co-ed, the Kamiak girls program is a stand-alone team with:
• Girls-only practices
• Girls-only competition
• A strong team culture focused on confidence, leadership, and growth

Starting wrestling in middle school is a great way to build skills and confidence before high school—but no prior experience is required at any level. Join Our Schoology Group for more info! Access code is 5PTR-2GGX-XK7J8

If you have questions or would like to talk through whether wrestling is a good fit for your student, I’m happy to connect. We would love to see more OV girls discover just how strong they really are.

TAKE THE PARENT/GUARDIAN SURVEY

Our school district is doing a district-wide survey to get a better sense of how families are doing and how we can better serve you.

The survey is open through February 2, 2026. The survey should only take 15 to 20 minutes to complete and is available in several languages including English, Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, Korean, Arabic and Vietnamese.

Thank you for helping us get a sense of how people are doing and how we can better support students and families.

If you have any issues accessing the survey, please contact JoAnne Fabian: fabianjx@mukilteo.wednet.edu.

SCHOOL BALLOT INFO SESSIONS

Join us for an interactive session with district leaders to learn about the Feb. 10 school ballot! Approval of the renewal learning levy would sustain 300 staff members and programs like athletics, arts, and campus safety, while passage of the capital construction bond would fund dozens of projects to improve student safety, replace outdated building systems, and modernize decades-old schools. Bring your questions and hear directly from the leaders guiding this work. Learn more at: www.mukilteoschools.org/bondlevy2026

All books checked out before the two-week winter break are now overdue. We currently have over 300 overdue items for our library! You will be receiving messages from the school district if there are any overdues on their account. Unless someone has that title on hold, students can usually renew their books for another two week loan period. If your student thinks there has been a mistake, please have them log onto their library account (instructions are on this video). Let our librarian know if you have questions, petersondj@mukilteo.wednet.edu

UPCOMING PTO EVENTS
February 6: Teen Late Night 8:30-10:30pm
We know middle schoolers want to have time to hang out with their friends from middle school, so this year PTO has partnered up with the Mukilteo YMCA. OV students can attend Teen Late Night for free (PTO is footing the bill) to hang out at the Mukilteo Y using their pool (with Muk Island inflatable), gym, and game room (video games, crafts, and board games). Brooklyn Bros Pizzeria will be donating pizzas for the event (1 slice per student).

Space is limited to 85 students. To register your student, go to https://bit.ly/ovptoY Adult volunteers are needed to help out so we can help offset the Y staff needed to make the ratio. All volunteers will receive $2 Snacks Ahoy bucks to give to your student to use. To volunteer, sign up HERE.

February 12: City Wide Lunar New Year
The City of Mukilteo has asked OV PTO to prepare a booth to show how families in our school celebrate Lunar New Year! If you would like to be part of the Lunar New Year booth with OV PTO, please let us know by January 26th. We have funds to assist with food that would be needed to show your culture. Otherwise, come celebrate as we ring in the Year of the Horse at Rosehill Community Center on February 12th from 5-8pm.

Seeking 2026-27 PTO Board Members
OV PTO is currently looking for interested individuals who would like to be part of the 2026-2027 OV PTO Board. All positions (President, VP, Secretary and Treasurer) are open. Two board members are returning but will have 8th graders next year. Without new leadership to train, Snacks Ahoy and school events (after school or evening events) might not happen the following year. Please consider stepping up so these events can continue. Incoming 6th grade families are welcome to be part of the board. If you are interested in joining the board, please email ovpiratepride@gmail.com no later than March 13th by 12pm.
