ACTIVITY BUS INFO

Students participating in after-school athletics, clubs, Elect to Learn and other extracurricular programs can ride the activity bus home. (Note--most sports practices do not end in time for our athletes to ride the activity bus.)
  • We have one activity bus this year that runs on Mondays through Thursdays that leaves OV at 4:05pm.
This bus route is provided to ensure that students participating in after school extended learning and enrichment activities have access to convenient school transportation home.

This year, activity bus routes have been updated to run more like transit routes, making planned stops—including stops at the elementary schools they serve—to help cover more areas efficiently. Route times are relatively close to, or even shorter than, what students experienced last year.

Below are the activity bus stops and approximate drop-off times. (NOTE--new stop was just added last week at Ocean & Mukilteo Blvd.)

BUS STOPS:
4:05pm: Leave OV
4:16pm: Serene Lake Elementary School
4:18pm: Picnic Point Elementary School
4:24pm: 3106 York Road (Vantage Apartments/York Rd Entrance)
4:29pm: Fairmount Elementary School (North Parking Lot)
4:38pm: Horizon Elementary School

SUPPORTING YOUTH IN A DIGITAL WORLD

Mukilteo School District is proud to welcome Dr. Lucía Magis-Weinberg, a globally recognized expert in adolescent brain development for a powerful virtual session this week.

Thursday, November 6, 6 to 7 p.m. (Session in English)
English language event: Zoom link

This session will give you the practical tools and confidence to set healthy limits, foster digital wellness, and guide your children to be responsible digital citizens. We will cover creating a family media plan, establishing clear rules, and managing screen time without constant battles.

Together, you will learn to mentor, rather than monitor, so your kids build a positive and safe relationship with technology.

FOOD ASSISTANCE

Some families are worried because help from SNAP (food benefits) might stop soon due to the government shutdown. If your family needs extra food support, talk to your school counselor or Student Support Advocate—they can help assist you find additional resources.

Here are a couple of options to get started.
  1. Check out the attached list of local food banks and when they’re open.
  2. CLICK HERE to do an online search for local food resources.

If you or your family need more help, see our Student Support Advocate, Patty Nogueda, in the main office.

YOUR VOICE MATTERS: SERVE ON A DISTRICT COMMITTEE

Mukilteo School District invites you to help shape important decisions about curriculum, budget, and student services by serving on a district standing committee. Interested in learning more or volunteering? Join us for a Zoom meeting on Monday, November 17 at 4 p.m. To receive the Zoom link, please RSVP by Wednesday, November 12 to communications@mukilteo.wednet.edu.

Committee members are elected by attendees at the meeting and may serve on one committee per year. We would love to have you involved!

During this year’s meeting, the school district will be looking to fill these positions on standing committees:

  • BUDGET COMMITTEE: The committee reviews and provides input to the superintendent regarding board and districtwide initiatives and preliminary budget recommendations. The committee meets twice a month from late January through early May. There is one parent opening (two-year term).
  • RESEARCH AND ASSESSMENT: The committee reviews proposals for research conducted in the district for approval and makes recommendations regarding the school district’s assessment program. The committee meets when research proposals are submitted and need to be reviewed. This is generally twice per year. There is one parent opening on the committee this year (two-year term).
  • STUDENT RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The committee reviews and recommends revisions to the Exceptional Misconduct portion of the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook. It meets once a year, usually in May. There are two openings this year (two-year terms).
  • INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS COMMITTEE: The committee reviews and decides upon curriculum materials recommendations by district and school teams, ensuring all instructional resources align with district standards, state regulations, and reflect community values. The Instructional Materials Committee makes recommendations to the school board for adoption. The committee has meetings in the afternoon, two or three times a year, and committee members serve three-year terms. There are three parent/family positions open this year.
  • SPECIAL PROGRAMS: The committee's purpose is to foster communication and learn about the district’s multilingual education, intervention, highly capable, and special education programs, as well as provide input on annual applications and program evaluation efforts. The committee meets twice a year, usually in the late afternoon or evening. There are two parent/family member openings (two-year terms) for parents who have students receiving one of the following services: Title 1, Highly Capable Program.

Library Reminder: Overdue Books

Our library currently has 186 overdue books. Overdue notices will be sent home next week (you may also receive them from the district).

All students are expected to return or renew their library books every two weeks. Books left out too long are more likely to get damaged—often from being left at the bottom of backpacks, lockers, or car trunks.

If your student forgets their book on library day, there’s a return bin just outside the library. They can drop it off on their way to Science or other classes in the A building.

Thank you for helping your student remember their library books! If you think there’s a mistake, please have your student check with Mrs. Peterson, our librarian, before the end of the trimester.

ELECT TO LEARN is open after school from 2:45-4pm in A214 on Mondays through Thursdays.
  • It is open to all grades.
  • It is staffed by Ms. Laura, Ms. Karina & Ms. Katie.

Both of these options are quiet study places to get help with homework or to read a book. No cell phones or computer gaming is allowed.

ACTIVITY BUS: Students attending these supervised activities can ride the activity bus home as long as they live in our bus boundaries.

MESSAGE FROM LEARNING LABS

Attention 6th Grade Families!
At the start of the school year, all sixth graders completed two short activities:
  1. A quick 5-minute math fact test covering addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Mastering these basic facts helps make middle school math much easier—the goal is 100% accuracy in each operation.
  2. A short writing assignment describing their favorite school subject and why they enjoy it.
This week, students will bring home both assessments in a packet. Last week, we reviewed the results with students on Monday (Math) and Tuesday (Writing).

If your student did not earn 100% on the math facts or a score of 3 or 4 on the writing piece, please use the materials included in the packet for extra practice.

Students are welcome to practice at home or attend our Learning Lab after school on Monday s through Thursdays. Working together on these foundational skills builds confidence and supports continued academic success.

Kim Phillips, Coordinator of Academic Success — Learning Lab
Jan Link, Director of Academic Link Outreach
