STATE TESTING

State testing started last week, and it is very important that all students are present and prepared each day. Please make sure your student comes to school every day with a fully charged laptop and their charging cord.

Testing windows are tight, and there is limited time for make-up sessions, so daily attendance is essential for student success.
Testing Schedule:
  • May 6–8: ELA CAT (Computer Adaptive Test) – during Social Studies classes
  • May 11–15: ELA PT (Essay Portion) – during ELA classes
  • May 18–22: Science WCAS (8th grade only) – during Science classes
  • May 26–29: Math Test – during Math classes
Makeup Testing Schedule:
  • May 11, 12 & 15: Makeup ELA CAT testing
  • May 19-22: Makeup ELA CAT & PT testing
  • May 28-29: Makeup for Science & ELA testing
  • June 1-4: Makeup for SBA Math

Thank you for helping your student be prepared, present, and ready to do their best! Please remind your student to charge their laptop every night and bring it fully charged to school along with their charging cord.

HEADPHONES NEEDED FOR STATE TESTING

May 6-29: SBA Testing Window
If your student has wired/corded headphones or earbuds at home, please help your student remember to bring them to school during our state testing dates. The testing platform requires a physical cord connection—Bluetooth and wireless will not work.

While we have headphones available, students often prefer using their own for comfort. If your child doesn't have wired headphones at home, no need to purchase them—we'll provide a pair.
Thank you for helping us prepare students for a successful testing experience!

REMINDER FROM STUDENT TECHNOLOGY CENTER

As we begin our SBA testing, we want to ensure all students are prepared and have functioning devices.

If a student needs to visit the Student Tech Center for any reason during the testing period, please remind them that they must bring their charger with them. Having the charger on hand allows the tech team to properly diagnose and power laptops without delays.

Thank you for your help in making this testing season run smoothly!

YEARBOOKS ON SALE

8TH GRADE CEREMONY & CELEBRATION (6/16)

Our 8th grade ceremony and celebration are set for Tuesday, June 16th starting at 6pm. Doors open at 5:30pm. Come early for best seats and parking! Tickets are required and limited to four per family; tickets will be distributed on Friday, June 12th in 6th period classes.

The 8th grade ceremony is not considered a “graduation" ceremony. Graduation is reserved for high school seniors. All 8th grade students are recognized at the event by name in addition to some students earning special department awards and memorial awards. (We will notify families of students receiving these awards ahead of time.) Leave the balloons at home. They block the view of others. We will not allow any balloons in the bleachers or standing-room area.

Our 8th graders should wear "dressy casual" to the 6pm ceremony. School dress code rules apply for both the ceremony & celebration. Students should bring a change of casual clothes for the student-only celebration from 7-9pm. Students can quickly change their clothes after the ceremony and give back their dress clothes to parents before leaving.

DONATIONS NEEDED FOR 8TH GRADE CELEBRATION

Attention 8th Grade Parents/Guardians! The parent committee for planning this year’s 8th Grade Celebration is seeking donations to cover the cost of the event ($10 suggested donation). Donations will be used to cover food, games, prizes and decorations.

MISINFORMATION SESSIONS IN LIBRARY

This past library rotation, in addition to checking out books, students had sessions on Misinformation. Misinformation is defined as false or inaccurate information that gets shared, often unintentionally, without someone realizing it's wrong. In today's digital world, your middle schooler encounters information constantly through social media, websites, and messaging apps, and not all of it is true or reliable. Teaching students to pause, question sources, and verify facts before believing or sharing information is a critical skill for navigating online spaces safely and responsibly.

Here’s what happened: 6th graders learned about how AI is continuously learning using a drawing of a dog and a cat, students in 7th grade learned the best way to tell if something is AI is to do a search for context (even if it’s an image), and our 8th grade classes learned that in a big news story, there are all types of information and how to tell fact from fiction (hint - use snopes.com, or factcheck.org among others!) Also a reminder that all library books will be due June 5th for this school year!

AFTER-SCHOOL HOMEWORK HELP

LEARNING LABS is open after school from 2:45-4pm in C143 (PE Health classroom) on Mondays through Thursdays.
  • Learning Labs is for 6th graders only!
  • Kim Phillips, our LEARNING LAB coordinator for this school year, can help students stay on top of work, strengthen your student's skills, and make sure they are keeping up with assignments.

ELECT TO LEARN is open after school from 2:45-4pm in A214 on Mondays through Thursdays.
  • It is open to all grades.
  • It is staffed by Ms. Laura, Ms. Karina & Ms. Danell.

Both of these options are quiet study places to get help with homework or to read a book. No cell phones or computer gaming is allowed.

ACTIVITY BUS: Students attending these supervised activities can ride the activity bus home as long as they live in our bus boundaries. CLICK HERE for the bus stops and estimated time of drop-off.
