NOVEMBER PIRATES OF THE MONTH

For November, we celebrated students who exemplify positivity, those who think optimistically, seek solutions, and focus on the success of themselves and others. These outstanding Pirates demonstrate what it means to be strong communicators, show gratitude, and empower those around them.
A group of students hold their Pirate of the Month certificates, smiling for the camera.
Congratulations to Muhammad Brown (not pictured), Dimas Garcia, Avalynne Humphrey, Erica Bosyuk, and Ashim Ssentongo!
Thank you for showing our OV community what positivity looks like every day. You don't just have a good day--you make a good day!

LAPTOPS & CHARGERS

Students are expected to bring their fully charged laptop AND their charger every day to every class.

Daily Loaner Checkouts:
  • Students are allowed three laptop and three charger daily loaner checkouts per trimester.
  • When students borrow laptops or chargers, a pink pass is sent to 6th period classes as a reminder to return item(s) before end of day. Chargers and laptop loaners need to be returned to the STC by 2:40pm (1:25 on Fridays).

**As a reminder, our loaner devices are intended for occasional, short-term use in cases where students forget to bring their school-issued device.

OV FOOD DRIVE

As many of you may have heard, SNAP benefits were stalled last month, and this has impacted some families in our community. To help provide additional support, we are launching a schoolwide food drive to stock our Packs for Kids program (coordinated by Jim Tinsley). Our goal is to collect quick and easy dinner items that students can prepare at home.

We are asking for shelf stable, kid-friendly foods that don’t require extra ingredients like milk, butter or eggs. “Heat and eat” or “just add water” items are especially helpful.
Grains & Bases
  • Instant rice cups (microwavable) or jasmine rice bags
  • Pasta (regular or microwave-ready pouches)
  • Mac & cheese cups
  • Ramen or noodle bowls (lower sodium if possible)
  • Instant mashed potatoes
  • Velveeta mac and cheese (no milk or butter needed)
  • Crackers
  • Tortilla Chips
Proteins
  • Canned chicken or tuna
  • Canned chili or stew
  • Canned beans (black, pinto, or refried)
  • Peanut butter
  • Lentil or bean soup cups
Sauces & Add-Ons
  • Pasta sauce
  • Salsa
  • Shelf-stable cheese sauce pouches
  • Teriyaki or stir-fry sauce packets
Ready-to-Eat or Low-Prep Meals
  • Chef Boyardee or Annie’s pasta cups
  • Instant noodle or rice bowls with veggies/protein
  • Microwave soups
  • Boxed shelf-stable meal kits (Hormel Compleats, Annie’s)
Donations can be sent to school with your student or dropped off in the main office. Any contribution—big or small—helps support a family in our community.

Thank you for your continued care and generosity. Our Pirate community truly takes care of one another!

We will continuing collecting donations through December 19th at noon.

FOOD ASSISTANCE

Some families are worried because help from SNAP (food benefits) has been impacted by the recent government shutdown. If your family needs extra food support, talk to your school counselor or Student Support Advocate—they can help assist you find additional resources.

Here are a couple of options to get started.
  1. Check out the attached list of local food banks and when they’re open.
  2. CLICK HERE to do an online search for local food resources.

If you or your family need more help, see or call our Student Support Advocate, Patty Nogueda, in the main office. She can be reached at 425-366-5224.

The words 'LIBRARY NEWS' are displayed over a blurred library background.
Congratulations! Your child has finished one-third of the school year and winter break will be here in just three weeks! To celebrate and connect, try a family read‑aloud (even just you and your middle schooler). Reading boosts vocabulary and fluency, and kids are more likely to read when they see adults reading. Just 10 minutes a day can spark great conversations and strengthen your bond. Please contact Mrs. Peterson, our librarian, if you would like any book suggestions!

MUKILTEO SCHOOLS FOUNDATION BOOK FAIR

The Mukilteo Schools Foundation (partnership with the district) is hosting a Book Fair at Barnes & Noble in Lynwood on December 7th from 10am to 4pm to help support classrooms, staff and students in the district. A choir from Kamiak High School will be performing at 2pm. Hope to see you there!
