CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR DISTRICT TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONS!

The fifteen middle schools of SnoKing competed at the District Championship Track and Field meet last Wednesday, and we had a lot of Pirates vying for a chance to become a champion.

Our Pirate athletes did an amazing job representing our school, and while there were many outstanding performances, here are a few that rose to the very top:

  • Elin, Evelyn, Mila, Elise, Brooklyn, Emma, Summer, Naomi, Jax, Josiah, Simon, Joshua, Bryson, and Austin all earned multiple ribbons, placing in the top eight of their events.

  • Kellen also stood out, earning four ribbons, placing in all four of his events.

We also have two district champions! Both athletes took top place in two of their events.
  • Naomi Anderson (8th grade): Finishing 1st in the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash.

  • Jax Walker (7th grade): Finishing 1st in the 800-meter run and the 1600-meter run.

Way to go, Pirates!

SUMMER LAPTOP CARE

We will collect hotspots (all grades) and laptops from all eighth graders and any students leaving the district. OV 8th graders will turn in their laptops and chargers on 6/16 (note date change) in their math classes.

Current 6th and 7th graders may keep their devices over the summer.
  • Families who do not wish to be responsible for the care of their student's device over the summer may opt-out by contacting Dano Jensen in our Student Technology Center (JensenDE@mukilteo.wednet.edu).

Tips for taking care of your district laptop during summer
  • Keep it clean: Avoid eating or drinking near your laptop to prevent spills
  • Store it safely: Keep your laptop in a safe, dry place when not in use. Consider using a protective case or sleeve
  • Charge and restart: Use you MSD charger and unplug once fully charged to avoid overcharging. Restart your computer regularly, especially before returning to school to get security updates.
  • Handle with care: Avoid dropping or bumping you laptop and placing heavy objects on top. Close lid gently.
Use responsibly: Follow the district guidelines for appropriate use. Avoid downloading unauthorized software and visiting unsafe websites.

8TH GRADE CEREMONY & CELEBRATION UPDATE

What: Olympic View Middle School 8th Grade Ceremony and Celebration

Where: Olympic View Middle School Gym, 2602 Mukilteo Speedway, Mukilteo, WA 98275

When: Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at 6 pm

Details: Doors open at 5:30 pm. Come early to get a good parking spot. Each family will receive four tickets. We’ll send the tickets home with your student on Friday, June 13th. The ticket doesn’t guarantee seating. First come, first serve! Our 8th graders should wear dressy casual to the 6pm ceremony. School dress code rules apply for both the ceremony & celebration. Please leave the balloons at home. They block the view of others during the ceremony.

OV 8th Graders Only--Celebration: Students should bring a change of clothes for after the ceremony. Students will get a passport to stamp each destination (games) they visit at the party. We will have pizza, drinks and lots of treats to enjoy as well. There will also be a 3-on-3 basketball tournament plus a craft station for those who prefer peace and quiet. Once the clock strikes 9 pm, prepare for departure as this ship has sailed.

Parent Shipmates Needed: While this event is for our newly minted freshmen (gasp, how?!), we’re looking for some parent volunteers to help run the celebration, and no training is required! Please help us prevent a mutiny on the ship by volunteering a couple hours of your time. We really could use help with cleaning up after and running the stations during the after party. Your parent-run committee has been swabbing the deck since February and would really appreciate the support. Please email our 8th grade celebration chairperson, Frances Blauvelt if you can help: francesklin@gmail.com. Arrrrr, thank you, matey!

MESSAGE FROM JAN LINK (LEARNING LABS DIRECTOR)

Attention 6th Grade Parents:

Sasquatch Challenge
There is no greater gift we can give our children than to be able to read fluently and to enjoy the "World of Reading".

The first Olympic View Sasquatch Challenge is over. Nine 6th graders read three or more of the twelve Sasquatch Challenge books over our first challenge year. Three students read all twelve of the Nominees. These students will be entered into a drawing depending on the number read for prizes worth $100, $75, $50, and $25 dollars. Other community prizes will be given as well. Congratulations to Sirah S., Mahroo C., Finot B., Branson W., Maksim M., Edna A., Olivia W., and Cleo P.

What is the BEST predictor of high school success?
Research shows that the best predictor of high school success is middle school grades. Our academic goal at Olympic View is that students will meet their teachers' expectations. This is shown by earning A, B, C grades in all classes. We want to send students to 7th grade D & N free.

The time is NOW! Please check Schoology and help your child with any subject needing supported. A "To Do" list helps organize them as they complete and turn in any missing assignments. Let's do the Pirate Way.........work hard and finish at the top!

Afterschool Clubs
Get involved! Join a club! Check out the CLUBS CALENDAR for more details. (Make sure to check the start date.) More clubs will be added throughout the school year. Keep checking the calendar!

Students participating in an afterschool club can ride the activity bus home (must live in bus boundary). Important--make sure your student knows his/her address. There is a North and a South bus; supervising staff can help students get on the correct bus.

Last day for Elect to Learn, Learning Labs, clubs and activity buses is Wednesday, June 11th.
