SOS Presentations
SIGNS OF SUICIDE (SOS) PRESENTATIONS
Counselors will be teaching students about mental health and how to seek help if they are worried about themselves or a friend. Counselors will be using a program called SOS Signs of Suicide. The program teaches students about this difficult topic and encourages them to seek help.

Through the program, students learn:
  • Depression is treatable, so they are encouraged to seek help
  • How to identify depression and potential suicide risk in themselves or a friend
  • To ACT (Acknowledge, Care and Tell) a trusted adult if concerned about themselves or a friend
  • Who they can turn to at school for help

We encourage you to visit https://mindwise.org/parents/
for information on warning signs for youth suicide, useful resources and learn some of the key messages students will learn. Please also check out the attached flyer with more information about the SOS program.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact your student’s school counselor.
  • 6th grade: Wendy Smith
  • 7th grade: Teresa Hoffman

Library Catalog Practice
Students are reviewing how to use the library catalog. Not only can students check their library account (to see what’s overdue), but they can also put books on hold (and delivered to their ELA teacher, if there are no overdue books out) and add books to their personal (To Be Read) list. Students can watch the video in the Counseling & Library course in Schoology.

Fragrance Free Zone
SCENT AWARENESS
Scented products can trigger serious health reactions in people with asthma, bronchitis, migraines, allergies or chemical sensitivities. Please remind your students to maintain a healthy environment for everyone by not wearing or spraying scented products while at school.

HOMEWORK HELP (MONDAYS - THURSDAYS)
Does your student need homework help?
  • Our 6th graders can attend FREE tutoring sessions in C143 after school for Learning Labs with Ms. Jan.
  • Our 7th and 8th graders can stay after school in the library for Elect to Learn (ETL)
Students can also ride the 4pm activity bus home. (Make sure your student knows their address. Staff can help students get on the correct North or South bus.)

Afterschool Clubs
Get involved! Join a club! Check out the CLUBS CALENDAR for more details. (Make sure to check the start date.) More clubs will be added throughout the school year. Keep checking the calendar!

Students participating in an afterschool club can ride the activity bus home (must live in bus boundary). Important--make sure your student knows his/her address. There is a North and a South bus; supervising staff can help students get on the correct bus.

MOUNTAIN MOVERS: Mountain Movers Club is canceled today. Sorry for the inconvenience.

LATINO CULTURAL CLUB: Sorry for the inconvenience, but our Latino Cultural Club is canceled until further notice as Ms. Nogueda is not available due to family emergency.

YANA CLUB: Our newest club starts this week! (Normally this club is on Thursdays, but it will be held on Wednesday this week.) Welcome to the YANA Club! Whether you're an outgoing student with lots of friends, or a student who is trying to find a place where you belong, all are welcome at the YANA Club. We are building a community that aims to help people feel less alone. The name YANA stands for "You Are Not Alone". Our goals are to spread kindness, encourage love and compassion, create safe spaces for students at school, and to help the overall campus feel like a more welcoming place for students by students. If you're interested in joining, meet times will be weekly on Thursdays after school in A108 with Mrs. Peretti and Bubba. First come first serve--sign-ups will be in the office starting Tuesday mornings and will close Tuesday afternoons.

Due to this Thursday's Hearty Party, all clubs, Elect to Learn and Learning Labs are canceled so students can attend the party.
