MSD Honoring Pride Month 🌈

Mukilteo School District sees and welcomes students, staff and family members who identify as LGBTQIA+. Our Board Policy 3211 states, “The Board believes in fostering an educational environment that is safe and free of discrimination for all students, regardless of gender identity or gender expression or sex. To that end, the Board recognizes the importance of an inclusive approach toward transgender and gender-expansive students.” Feeling included and supported is one of the most critical elements of well-being and belonging.

We welcome ALL students, staff and families to join us as we collectively honor Pride Month 2024. Pride Month is celebrated each year throughout June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan and the ongoing efforts in the LGBTQIA+ Liberation Movements in the United States and beyond.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
  • 7th GRADE FAMILIES. We need your assistance with the 8th grade celebration on JUNE 20th.
As part of OV tradition, some 7th grade parents help with the celebration while 8th grade families attend the ceremony. Next year, when it’s your turn to attend the ceremony, the 7th grade parents will help you with your event. This is also a great opportunity to see how the 8th grade ceremony and celebration are organized and run, which will be helpful when it’s your turn to plan the 8th grade celebration for your students.

We need VOLUNTEERS from 5:45 PM - 7:15 PM to supervise the food tables and the courtyard games (possibly help with small tasks) while the 8th grade families are attending the ceremony from 6 - 7 pm. The 8th Grade committee will handle the setup and will take over the responsibilities once the ceremony concludes.
Please consider lending a hand by signing up HERE
    Thank you for your support!!
  • 8 GRADE FAMILIES. The planning committee needs to borrow a few LARGE BEVERAGE COOLERS for the 8th grade celebration. They are also looking for families who can donate some ice -- several bags are needed. Please contact the committee chair, Thelma Othon, at othonthelma@gmail.com if you can help.
  • Our last All School Celebration is schedule on June 12th. To have a successful celebration, we need adult volunteers to help us with outdoor games, dance chaperones, and concession table. Please sign up HERE to volunteer.

THANK YOU for SUPPORTING YOUR SCHOOL!!

USEFUL INFORMATION

DO YOUR STUDENTS OWE FEES/FINES?

As the end of the school year approaches, it's a good idea to check if your student has any fees or fines. There might be charges for lost or damaged books, club fees, or unreturned athletic uniforms. Any fines and fees carry over from year to year, so it’s best to clear these up as soon as possible.

Please click HERE to check your student’s account.

Email our bookkeeper, Mrs. Koegler, with any questions.

NOT RETURNING TO OV NEXT YEAR?

If you know that your student will not be returning to Olympic View for the next school year (2024-2025) due to a family move or other circumstances, please email our school Registrar, Mrs. Mejia, or call 425-366-5211. Reach out at your earliest convenience.

Meet WENDY SEDLACEK: Speech Language Pathologist

picture of Wendy Seldacek

Hi! 👋 My name is Wendy Sedlacek, and I am OV Speech Language Pathologist since 2014. Before that, I worked in Eastern Washington for 14 years, Mercer Island School District for 7 years, and at a hospital. I teach students articulation to help them improve their understanding of receptive language, comprehension, expressive and social language. Additionally, I work on enhancing their fluency and voice, like assisting students who stutter. I love working one-on-one with students and building connections with them. It is incredibly rewarding to see students who once had difficulties communicating finally able to voice their thoughts and ideas.

I graduated from Washington State University (GO COUGS!) with a BA in English, concentrating in Education and Speech Pathology. I then continued my education and received a Master's Degree in Speech Pathology from Western Washington University.

Fun fact: I am a HUGE Potterhead. I have been to the studio lot where they filmed Harry Potter in London. In fact, I am the advisor for OV Harry Potter Club! In my free time, I love traveling, gardening, and spending time with my family and my dog.

OV COUNSELORS

Students are assigned to the same counselors as they progress through grade levels.

This continuity ensures that they can build and maintain connections and support throughout their time at OVMS.

A Message from Your Student Support Advocate: FOOD INSECURITY

Did you know that 1 in 6 children in WA State experience hunger?

Many of us may not realize the grave disparities that exist in our own communities because it is often a subject that is not openly discussed. Today, people face hunger daily in every county and congressional district in Washington. Many students go to school hungry and face an internal war. Without nourishment to help maintain a child's inner peace, they may experience turmoil that can lead to anger, embarrassment and even physical challenges like stomachaches and headaches.

These children could be our neighbors, kids in our children’s classes, the possibilities are endless. This is why it’s so important to educate ourselves and others about where to turn for support when food insecurity arises. Food banks, food pantries, SNAP and the National School Lunch Programs are ways in which food insecurity can be combated. With summer just around the corner, and schools being out of session, those months can be especially difficult for some students and their families. If you would like to find out more about how to apply for or locate food support programs, please contact our Student Support Advocate, Mrs. Nogueda, by email at noguedapx@mukilteo.wednet.edu or by phone at (425)366-5224.
