OV--First Day of School Info for 6th Graders

Posted Date: 08/29/25 (10:08 AM)

A notepad with the words 'Welcome to middle school' is surrounded by school supplies.

Welcome, 6th Grade Families!

We are excited to welcome our new 6th graders to their very first day of middle school on Tuesday, September 2nd! This special day is dedicated just to our 6th graders—no 7th or 8th graders will be on campus except for our supportive ASB student leaders, ensuring a warm and comfortable beginning to this exciting journey.

Remind your 6th grader to bring their ID card (if they attended business day) so they can scan it for lunch and to check out a laptop. No worries if your 6th grader doesn't have an ID card yet. They can use the barcode on their final schedule or can memorize their ID # until they get their card on picture retake day in October.

Morning Arrival and Pick-Up

The gates at OV will open at 7:35am. All students should head to the covered area by the gym to pick up their final class schedules, printed on green paper. After grabbing schedules, students are invited to enjoy a free breakfast in the cafeteria or spend time reconnecting with friends in the courtyard before the school day officially starts.

Welcome Assembly & "Middle School 101"

At 8:00am, our first bell will ring and all 6th graders will gather in the gym for a spirited welcome assembly. Here, students will get to meet their teachers and be officially welcomed by our dedicated staff and ASB student leaders. Afterward, 6th grade teachers will introduce themselves and lead students to their 1st period classrooms, where a special "Middle School 101" presentation will go over basic school info, help answer questions, review bus procedures, and offer fun activities to get to know classmates.

Rotations and Essential Set-Up

Beginning at 9:30am, students will rotate through three important stations, spending 40 minutes at each:
  • School Tours: Get comfortable navigating the campus.
  • Laptop Checkout & Passwords: Check out laptop/charger and update passwords.
  • Planners & Binder Organization: Set up for success—please remember to bring a 2" 3-ring binder to use all year long! Students will also receive their OV planner and do a planner scavenger hunt. (Remind your student to take good care of their planner all year--replacement planners cost $4.00, and we have a limited supply.)
These stations are designed to build confidence and provide the tools every 6th grader needs to start strong.

Lunch and Class Time

After the rotations, lunch will be provided in the cafeteria from 11:30am to 12:10pm. (Lunch is free for all students for the 2025-2026 school year). Then, starting at 12:15pm, each student will attend all six of their classes for 20 minutes each, meeting every teacher and visiting each classroom. This is a great way for 6th graders to settle nerves, get familiar with their schedules, and connect with the staff who will support them throughout the year.
